Karate Denver and the Community We’ve Built

This past week in our community has been an especially difficult week but we’re proud of how our ATA family has come together to give back. When you join Karate Denver, you’re not just getting a workout or a goal to work towards – you’re getting an extended family.

It’s not unusual to see kids helping each other when practicing their forms in class, or even adults!! It’s not unusual to see people reaching out to someone to see if they’re ok after a particularly hard day. Many of the kids form lifelong friendships through their experiences here and that is something that we LOVE to see!

After the tragedy in Highlands Ranch, we’re due for a feel-good type of post about how amazing our community is. This post is a roundup of some of the ways our community has pulled together and some ways you can join us in the future. We hope to see you soon!

Bullying Prevention Seminar

We recently held a bullying prevention seminar and it was a huge success! Both children and parents learned prevention and defense measures to help them cope with bullying, both inside their school and neighborhood. They learned to defend themselves and help others. And most importantly, everyone had a ton of fun! Keep an eye out for more of these types of events in the future.

Renew the Ranch

Volunteers participated in Renew the Ranch to help clean up designated park and open space areas in the Highlands Ranch community. Renew the Ranch is an annual event that is a kid-friendly activity. Groups, families, and individuals are all encouraged to attend. This is a great opportunity for families to volunteer together and for high school students to earn community service hours required for graduation. We hope you can join us again next year!

In Class Friendships

I remember my first day in class, being so nervous that I wouldn’t fit in. There were a few other moms there that made me feel so much better! There’s no awkward small talk, everyone just comes together as a community to support and encourage each other. If this sounds like something that interests you, we would love to have you come in and check us out!

Jolene Rheault

Jolene works as a marketing professional but full-time as a mom. She lives in Highlands Ranch, CO with her 7-year-old son, husband, 2 cats, and a bearded dragon named Jerry.
