We’ve been talking a lot about giving experiences as gifts for children, but what about the adults? I want to share my experience with ATA Karate Denver over the last month. To preface this post, I want to add in that I’ve been attending ATA Karate Denver since August with my son Cayden and we are currently orange belts. A few weeks ago, I needed a kick to the butt to boost my weight loss so I signed up for a competition called Diet Bet. A diet bet is when you pledge a certain amount of money to lose 4% of your body weight within 4 weeks. I personally put in $30 for this particular round. I have until December 18th to reach 184.3 pounds.
For the most part (it is the holidays after all), I have the healthy eating portion under control. It’s the exercise part that I struggle with. I enjoy going to ATA Karate Denver and decided to incorporate that as my main form of exercise during this challenge. I currently go to Karate Denver 3-4 times each week and I’m happy to say that the workouts are starting to feel easier each time, so my stamina is definitely increasing!
So let’s back up to a few weeks ago…

Official #dietbet weigh-in. Feeling slightly nervous because I haven't been this weight since before I was pregnant! Ahem, 8 years ago. Feeling excited to get my body back though! Let's do this! #dietbetchallenge #dietbetfatgirlfedup #weightloss #losingweight #losinginches
This was my initial weigh-in and photo. This was BEFORE Thanksgiving, and I was TERRIFIED. I didn’t think this was going to go very well!!
Well, look what a difference 20 days makes!
How insane is that?! It wouldn’t have been possible without the team at ATA Karate Denver. When I go in, they know that I’m there to work and I ALWAYS leave the school dripping with sweat and feeling accomplished. It makes me want to eat healthier so I don’t waste my workouts. And it’s not just weight that I’m losing, I have been tracking my inches as well. All of those pushups were worth it because I’ve lost an inch on each since November 18th!
